Book the ocean-view room over the swim-up suite
The swim-up suite runs $200–350 a night more than a standard ocean-view. It sounds like the dream. In practice you’ll use the view every morning and the plunge pool about twice.
Swim-up rooms photograph beautifully, which is exactly why resorts price them like a suite. But the little private pool is shallow, shared-facing, and cold most mornings — and every Cabo resort already has a real infinity pool fifty steps away. What you actually live with for a week is the view from the bed and the balcony, and that’s the thing the ocean-view category nails for hundreds less.
Do it like this
Book the highest ocean-view floor you can — ask for “high floor, unobstructed” in the reservation notes. Higher up you get the full Sea of Cortez and the arch on a clear morning, plus quiet away from the pool bar. Put the $250 a night you saved toward one great dinner in San José del Cabo and a sunset boat.
Worth it — the view, not the private pool. Upgrade for the balcony and the floor height. The swim-up premium is the one Cabo add-on that’s almost pure markup.
The one exception
If you’re traveling with small kids who want water at the door and won’t hike to the main pool, a swim-up ground-floor room earns its keep. For couples, it doesn’t — the ocean-view balcony wins every morning of the trip.
